This course covers topics including child development, leisure and play facilitation, planning and programming, as well as legal and ethical requirements. All students will engage in practical placement in a range of settings with a variety of age groups.

This qualification allows people to work in a support role with a Diploma qualified person, to care for and educate children from 6 weeks of age. Those holding this qualification can work in a variety of settings, including:

• long day care
• pre-school
• family day care
• outside school hours care

All applicants selected into the course must have a Police Check and Working With Children Check processed prior to commencing in February. Allow at least 4 weeks for processing. It is recommended that those applying to enter this course consider their age in relation to attaining employment post qualification. No Prior experience is necessary for entry into this course.

It is essential that all successful applicants wishing to enrol in the course have a current Police Check (dated no less than 6 months at the time of enrolment) and a current Working With Children Check. These require a minimum fee and should be applied for at a volunteer level. Please allow 4 weeks for processing. It is recommended that applicants have completed a minimum of one full day of voluntary attendance at a child care centre
