Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, we have adapted our course delivery to now encompass a combination of remote and flexible delivery methods. This includes easy to navigate online tutorials, video conferencing (classroom simulation) as well as face-to-face practical assessments and work placements – where safe and practical to implement. Therefore, you will require access to the internet and a computer to undertake this course. Our flexible model allows you to continue to study in a safe, guided and fully supported manner with continued access to all learning, personal and wellbeing supports. You will be advised by your facilitator on a case by case basis in relation to practical and work placement assessments, as some flexibility will be required during this challenging time.

Building on the skills gained in the Certificate IV in Design (CUA40715), the Diploma of Graphic Design will help you take the next step in your design career by honing and building on those skills. Learn how to combine technical, creative and conceptual skills to create concepts and designs that meet client requirements.

  • An interview by teaching staff, a literacy and numeracy assessment and presentation of a folio which provides evidence of your technical skills and ability to:

    • Produce multiple examples of graphic design work that respond effectively to different design challenges.
    • Produce typography that supports the overall design solution.
    • Use graphic design industry software.

Your Course

CUA50715 Diploma of Graphic Design a nationally accredited course designed for students developing the ability to combine technical, creative and conceptual skills to create designs that meet client requirements and solve a range of visual communication challenges.

DELIVERY

  • Full-time.
  • Starts: 17 February 2021.
  • Ends: 3 December 2021.
  • Classes: Wednesday to Friday from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm.

Practice at this level is underpinned by the application of design theory and practice, and the ability to analyse and synthesise information from a range of sources to generate sophisticated design solutions.

Career progression opportunities for a Graphic Designer include positions as Studio Manager, Art Director or Creative Director.

You will work in a studio environment, learn to plan your daily workflow and how to collaborate creatively.

To complement your creative and technical skills, you will graduate with employability skills, know how to deliver to a deadline, and manage a project.

You will also develop a portfolio of your original work.

CORE AND ELECTIVE UNITS

To be awarded the qualification you must successfully complete nine core units and 10 elective units.

Your course is delivered face-to-face with clusters of units designed to give you hands-on instruction in a range of design techniques you can expect in the graphic design industry.

You will be regularly assessed during the course to show that you have achieved the skills and knowledge required. Assessments may include practical project-work, written and oral tasks.

Your course is classroom centred in a studio-based environment in which you will study individually and occasionally in groups, you will use industry-standard equipment and the latest digital design software.

Students eligible for Free TAFE receive the tuition rate free. Students eligible for JobTrainer pay 20% of the tuition. Materials, consumables and student services fees are payable by all students and do not receive a JobTrainer discount, however concession rates for student services fees are available for concession card holders, apprentices, trainees and 100% off campus delivery courses.
Concessions for Diploma and Advanced Diploma course categories are only available to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.
