These courses assist students to develop the skills they need in literacy, numeracy, language, self management and job readiness. Students undertaking these courses may have left school before completing year 12, and may have missed out on the base level learning needed for further training.

Skills creation
These courses are for students who wish to undertake basic training in an industry area, either because they need to use the relevant skills immediately in the workplace, or because they wish to prepare for entry to work in that industry.

Skills building
These courses are for students who want to enter a skilled trade or practice an occupation that calls for skills and knowledge beyond the basic level. Qualifications at this level require significant commitment by learners and may provide entry to licensed or otherwise regulated skilled occupations.

Skills deepening
These courses are for students who are progressing to a higher level within an industry area in which they already have employment or wish to enter employment at the more skilled, specialised or
para-professional level.

All Bendigo TAFE courses are either nationally or state recognised qualifications or a Bendigo TAFE accredited course.  All qualifications or courses requiring Industry Body registration or approval have been approved by the appropriate body.  Bendigo TAFE accredited courses have been designed by Bendigo TAFE to meet specific industry needs.  Bendigo TAFE also offers Short CoursesShort Courses consist of Bendigo TAFE accredited units.

On successful completion of study at Bendigo TAFE you will either receive a Statement of  Attainment or Certificate of Completion, and on successful completion of all units of study required for a nationally or state recognised qualification, the appropriate Qualification.  Our Course Search tells you the qualification level of each course, for example Certificate III or Diploma.

The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) is a quality assured national framework of qualifications in the school, vocational education and training (VET) and higher education sectors in Australia. All Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) deliver training within this framework and recognise training, assessment and qualifications delivered by any other RTO. This means that students can transfer between RTOs without worrying whether their previous study will be recognised. It also means that your qualifications will be recognised by industry Australia wide making it easier to move and work throughout Australia.

Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS)

VETiS (VET in Schools) gives you the opportunity to complete industry-focused training as part of your VCAL programs whilst remaining at your secondary school. Depending on the program your school offers you can earn credits towards a full Certificate II or III qualification. This can give you a great head start towards employment or further education.

In most cases Bendigo TAFE will deliver these courses at your secondary school in partnership with your school.

Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL)

VCAL is a hands-on option for Years 11 and 12 students. It gives you practical work-related experience, as well as literacy and numeracy skills and the opportunity to build personal skills that are important for life and work.  Students who undertake VCAL are likely to be interested in going on to training at TAFE, doing an apprenticeship or getting a job after completing school. VCAL's flexibility lets you undertake a study program that suits your interests and learning needs.

VCAL programs are delivered at Bendigo TAFE through the Bendigo TAFE Youth Pathways programs at our Bendigo City Campus, Echuca and Castlemaine campuses.  For Years 10, 11 and 12 students who are specifically interested in pursuing an apprenticeship or traineeship in a technical trade and still want to complete years 10, 11 and 12, the Bendigo Technical Education College (BTEC) Campus offers VCAL.  You can find courses that are delivered on the BTEC website.
