“I got extra help from my teachers to work out a plan when I had difficulties with my workload. It was really good; I don’t think I could have done it alone.”
For Cody, chasing down her dreams to become a nurse wasn’t always easy, but determination and the right support enabled her to get on track to the future she desires.

“I’ve always wanted to be a nurse. I enjoy caring for others; it’s always been a passion of mine. I was originally studying at another provider but decided to enrol in BTEC last year because I wanted to work my way up into nursing and they offered the health services assistance course as well as Year 12,” she said.

Completing her studies had its challenges – between her part-time job at a meat factory, finishing Year 12 and studying the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance, Cody struggled to manage her combined workload.

“I was going to drop out but decided to stick with it. I did some after school work with my teachers and I got extra help from my teachers to work out a plan when I had difficulties with my workload. It was really good; I don’t think I could have done it alone,” she said.

The aspiring nurse also takes the additional step to help and encourage her peers to successfully complete their studies.

“Some of my mates weren’t motivated to complete Year 12 but I felt it was important that we all finished the course together. So I helped them whenever I could and got the work done together,” she said.

A healthy career is in store for Cody as she takes on her nursing diploma this year!
