Certificate III in Music Industry Skills – Technical Production
VETiS (Bendigo Senior Secondary College)
I decided this course would be an enjoyable and informative way to up-skill and improve my knowledge about the music industry. During the first year we learnt about installing and managing sound systems, using Garage Band and MIDI to create songs on the computers, different jobs in the industry, writing and recording music and heaps more.
I really enjoyed the writing and recording unit and got great results. We recorded our own music in a recording studio which then led to bigger things. Our teacher, John Phillips, integrated this project with one being undertaken by his Interactive Digital Media class. The project grew into recording a professional quality music video. It was not a core component of the course, and was a privilege to be involved in. It opened up doors for me as my song was promoted around TAFE and I met new people who shared the same interest.
Studying music at Bendigo TAFE has given me both the opportunity and skills required to perform and write music, record and mix music and set up for performances. Throughout, along with the opportunity to record a music video, I was exposed to the digital media industry, which links with the music industry.
It has helped me to connect with other musicians, and I have been able to perform in gigs along the way. The teachers are awesome and really dedicated to our learning. It’s obvious they enjoy teaching the course. I would recommend the course to anyone who has an interest in music and you don't even need to play an instrument to enjoy it or learn from it.
