Bendigo TAFE
Student support

The Student Support team provides links to a range of support services, activities and events throughout the year.  Student Support staff work with students to coordinate and instigate a range of learning support, counselling support, social, recreational and fundraising activities, and also acts as an information and referral service to the student body.   Amenities fees contribute to funding this service to the entire student body at all Bendigo TAFE campuses.

Throughout the year, Bendigo TAFE coordinates a number of activities to help make the transition to being a student easier. These activities are a fantastic way for you to meet new people on your campus. Activities are announced through the student email system, and promoted throughout the campus on posters and information flyers. Some of these activities include campus BBQs, social activities, academic support activities and student festivals.

More information about and access to the following services can be through the Information Centre on 1300 554 248 or by contacting us.

Learning and tutor support services are available for Bendigo TAFE students experiencing difficulties with their studies, projects or assessments. For further information or to make an appointment students can contact the Information Centre by phoning 1300 554 248  to make an appointment with a team member from Student Support.

We also offer specialised programs to provide literacy and numeracy support.  The Course in Applied Vocational Study Skills (CAVSS), for example, provides students with extra teacher support in language, literacy and numeracy to work alongside the vocational teachers.  This ensures learners have the maths and literacy skills required by the vocational training program. Learners make connections between the skills they already have and the practical industry skills.

Tutor space is a group tutor session to assist people with how to write an assessment, or how to begin a project or to just provide some assistance to build your confidence in the learning environment.  These sessions run two days per week throughout the semester and are located in the library.  Please check days and times with library staff by calling 1300 554 248.

Bendigo TAFE is committed to the enhancement of educational opportunities for people with a disability, to enable them to participate as fully as possible in their study and work at TAFE. The Disability Support Program offers a range of services to students with a disability.

Personal issues can affect how well you settle into TAFE life and a study routine. Support from the on campus personal counsellor is available to students free of charge. Sometimes you may be referred to an external support agency. Bendigo TAFE does not charge for the referral, but there may be a charge for services provided by an external agency.

The Koorie Unit provides a learning environment where all students are respected and supported to learn new skills. The unit offers a range of support to its students (including those in mainstream courses) making sure you feel good about your Bendigo TAFE experience. Tutorial support is available for all courses.

A dedicated Koorie Liaison Officer works full time at the Koorie Unit providing support if students require assistance or need to talk.  Students have every opportunity to approach staff or the KLO if they have any concerns or issues when needed (this is for both students studying mainstream courses or courses within the Koorie Unit).

Students enrolling at any Campus can access the Koorie Unit through the Koorie Liaison Officers at both the Echuca & Bendigo Campuses.  Koorie Liaison Officers from either Campus can make arrangements to visit students on any Campus, and can arrange for appropriate support.

The Koorie Unit facilities are available for community meetings such as LAECG, Wurreker Forums, Community and NAIDOC meetings. Interested students are welcome to most of these meetings.

A careers counsellor is available to help all students with course selection and career and advice, resume writing, and job interview technique training. These services are provided free of charge.

At Bendigo TAFE we value your feedback as it helps us know what we are doing well, what we need to improve or to address a specific concern.  We’ll try to remedy any problems promptly and deal with each matter fairly. A full description of the Customer Feedback Procedure can be found here, however, in summary there are two ways to provide feedback or make a complaint:

  • Informally – discuss with an appropriate staff member (eg. your teacher). The informal option enables the people or the area most directly concerned to address the matter as quickly as possible.
  • Formally – put it in writing using our Formal Customer Feedback form. There are three ways to do this: complete a Formal Customer Feedback form and leave in the Feedback boxes at any of our campuses; you can download a copy of the Feedback Form and post or drop in to the Feedback boxes; or you can use the online Contact Us Enquiry Form and complete the Formal Feedback details.

Regardless of how you submit a Formal Feedback Form, the form will be forwarded to the Quality and Compliance team at the City Campus for recording and follow up including forwarding to the appropriate area for action.

Anonymous feedback about products and services will be actioned to the extent it can. Action based upon anonymous feedback about staff members and students is constrained by the principles of natural justice.

If you require assistance with the above process please contact the Information Centre on 1300 554 248 to make an appointment with a member from our Student Support team.
