To provide Bendigo TAFE employees and students with clear information about the Institute’s requirements regarding children on all Bendigo TAFE premises.
Bendigo TAFE acknowledges that occasionally there may be the need to bring children onto Institute premises. Bendigo TAFE also acknowledges it has a statutory obligation to provide a safe and healthy environment for employees, students, contractors and any other members of the community who visit the Institute and will ensure they are not unfairly disadvantaged or discriminated against because of their parental responsibilities. Bendigo TAFE will ensure that reasonable steps are taken to protect the study and work environment of others at Bendigo TAFE.
Bendigo TAFE staff and students shall only bring their children onto Bendigo TAFE premises in temporary circumstances and under the following provisions:
There must be due consideration of the work requirements/work environment of other staff and students at all times and supervising parents will ensure these are observed.
Parents must ensure that their children do not disrupt the work environment of staff or learning environment of students.
Children on campus remain the sole responsibility of their parents, and will remain under the parent’s full supervision during the entire time the child is on Institute premises.
No staff member or student shall ask another staff member or student to oversee or supervise their children, even for a short period of time.
On no occasion shall children be permitted to enter or access scientific laboratories or any area where chemicals are stored; trade or maintenance workshops or areas; commercial kitchens or kitchens used for instruction; any area where machinery/equipment/plant is operated; any area where a forklift is operated; or the Bendigo TAFE Winery.
This policy applies to all employees and students of Bendigo TAFE and visitors (but does not apply to children while attending BRIT Beginners Childcare Centre).
