Policy Statement

Bendigo TAFE is committed to establishing and maintaining, so far as practicable, the highest standards of occupational health, safety and welfare for the employees, students, contractors and any other members of the community who may be effected by the Institute’s operations.

Bendigo TAFE has a legal and moral obligation to its employees and all other uses of it’s campuses to provide as far as practicable a safe and healthy working environment.  The Chief Executive Officer and the Executive Management Committee accept overall responsibility for the effective management of health and safety systems to ensure these obligations will be met.

To achieve the principle objectives of the Occupational Health and Safety Policy, appropriate consultation will be established and maintained with all employees, elected and nominated Health and Safety Representatives for each designated workgroup and the OHS sub-committee.

Responsibilities and accountabilities have been determined and represent part of the employment contract between Bendigo TAFE and all employees.

No employee or student shall be victimised or disadvantaged for making a complaint.

Definitions

Amenities can include First Aid kits, trained First Aiders, emergency eye/face wash stations, decontamination showers, a place to rest, etc.

Bendigo TAFE means Bendigo Regional Institute of TAFE and Institute refers to the same.

Practicable means taking into account all of the following factors:

    • The severity of the hazard or risk in question;
    • The state of knowledge about any ways of removing the hazard or risk;
    • The availability of ways of removing that hazard or risk;
    • The cost of removing that hazard or risk.

Roles/Responsibility

The Occupational Health and Safety sub-committee is responsible for ensuring the Occupational Health and Safety Policy and associated processes and documents are current.
