Bendigo TAFE
Student Loans Policy
Policy No. Pol501

Currently UNDER Review - October 2010

Policy Statement

To enable students whose special circumstances require financial assistance to undertake or continue their studies, by accessing a Bendigo TAFE student loan fund.

This policy applies to disadvantaged students who have been offered an enrolment place within the Institute by a Teaching Department but who are unable to obtain a commercial or other loan.

Potential and continuing students who are disadvantaged financially sometimes may need assistance to enrol. In certain circumstances Bendigo TAFE will provide assistance to students to enable them to undertake or continue their studies.

The policy is subject to the following:-

  • Loans can only be established against government subsidised Education and Training fee;
  • The Institute has a capping on the amount of loans (in a monetary capacity) that can be established at one time that is the maximum tuition and student services and amenities fees per individual per year. This fee is based on the Ministerial Directions supplied by Skills Victoria. Note: this amount does not include materials or outstanding loans from previous years. The option for a second loan will not be approved until all outstanding debts are cleared.
  • The loan may only be used to pay for Tuition and Student Services and Amenities Fees. Materials are excluded unless approved under hardship by the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Repayments of a student loan must be at least each fortnight and fully repaid by the completion of the course. The completion date will be specified on the Student Loan contract.
  • No certificates or statement of results will be issued until a student loan is repaid.

The student loan fund has a budget of $31,000 and can be reused as monies are repaid into the fund.
