Certificate IV in Engineering

“I apply the skills I’ve learnt at TAFE in the workplace all the time.”

For Jake, progressing from his apprenticeship training into the Certificate IV in Engineering was an opportunity to take his career to the next level.

“I did the Certificate III in Mechanical Engineering and I wanted to take it forward. Continuing my studies would put me at the top of the list for jobs and help me take my career further into supervisory roles,” he said.

Jake was initially inspired by family to pursue engineering and his studies at Bendigo TAFE cemented his career goals.

“This has always been a family trade – my grandfather, father and cousin are in the same line of work. So I chose to complete a certificate II course during high school and advanced into the certificate III after that,” he said.

“At Bendigo TAFE the teachers were very knowledgeable and really helped me with my learning. We trained at a really good workshop with top of range gear that was modern and up to date. I apply the skills I’ve learnt at TAFE in the workplace all the time.”

The high flyer, who also clinched last year’s Apprentice of the Year award for 2nd year mechanical engineering apprentices, plans to move into diploma studies after the certificate IV.

“I hope to go into the diploma and advance into a more supervisory role at work. My plan is to get off the tools one day,” he said.

“It feels great to achieve this award; it’s definitely a good thing to have on your resume.”
