About
Learn English and change your life

This English language course is for beginners who have just started learning English or who have had minimal exposure to English. The course enables students to take part in the community, find and keep employment and take on further education and training.

Course graduates develop foundational knowledge and skills in the English language which enable them to interact with some autonomy and to take some initiative in a limited and predictable range of community, work, and educational contexts. Students can also develop numeracy skills and knowledge to perform simple mathematical operations in highly familiar contexts. They can also begin to develop autonomous learning strategies to start learning English outside the classroom. The knowledge and skills developed through the course provide a firm foundation for the further development of their English language skills.

The volume of learning ranges from 550 - 690 hours. This includes both supervised and unsupervised learning. As this course involves the acquisition of English language skills, unsupervised learning includes the everyday practice and use of all English language skills outside of the learning environment. The unsupervised component of the volume of learning may be decreased according to prior study or real-life experience. The above skills and knowledge are consistent with the AQF Qualification Type Descriptor for Certificate I.
