Diploma of Beauty Therapy (SHB50121)

Tara Nolan

For 22-year-old Tara, studying beauty therapy in her hometown of Bendigo has been more than just a career move, it’s been a confidence-building journey that’s opened doors to industry experience and future ambitions.

Currently completing her Diploma of Beauty Therapy at Bendigo TAFE, Tara began her journey with a Certificate III in Beauty Services last year. The decision to study locally was an easy one, thanks to the institute’s strong reputation and state-of-the-art facilities.

“I chose Bendigo because the facilities are amazing, and I knew people who had done the course and really recommended it,” Tara said.

“It’s been such a supportive environment.”

Tara’s favourite part of the course is building confidence with clients and mastering hands-on skills like facials and waxing.

“Before I started, I was really shy. Now I feel comfortable talking to clients and making them feel at ease.”

That confidence has already translated into real-world success. After completing her Certificate III, Tara secured a job at a local salon, where many of her colleagues also trained at Bendigo TAFE. She now balances work and study, gaining valuable experience while continuing to upskill.

“The training here really prepares you for the industry. The teachers are so kind and supportive. They genuinely want you to succeed.”

Tara’s long-term goal is to pursue further studies in dermal therapy at university in Melbourne, with a focus on advanced skin treatments. But for now, she’s grateful for the opportunity to study close to home.

“If this course wasn’t offered in Bendigo, I probably wouldn’t have studied beauty at all. Having it here makes it accessible for so many people.”

She believes regional beauty education is vital, not just for students, but for the broader community.

“It brings new talent into the industry and gives locals access to affordable treatments through student clinics. It’s a win-win.”

Tara’s story is a shining example of how regional training can empower young people to pursue their passions, build careers, and stay connected to their communities.
