About
Learn the Tools of the Trade

This course will train you for work within the justice industry. This includes justice careers in the state or federal police forces, customs service, sheriffs department, local government, correctional services, courts, youth justice, community corrections and various non-government organisations. Upon completion, you will be equipped to join a range of entry-level careers or move into further qualifications such as the Advanced Diploma of Justice (22321VIC) or a Bachelors degree.

Our course delivery encompasses a combination of remote and flexible delivery methods. This includes easy to navigate online tutorials, video conferencing (classroom simulation) as well as face-to-face practical assessments and industry visits- where safe and practical to implement.

Students are required to complete 12 units comprising of 10 core and 2 electives.

This course offers the following intakes:

Bendigo Campus - Full Time option - 2 days per week - Course Length: 1 year

Online classes - Part time option - 1 evening per week - Course Length: 1.5 years

Work based- Self paced option available to students working in the justice field or related industry - online study - Course Length: 1- 1.5 years

What Skills will I have when I complete this course?

Vocational outcomes of the Diploma course are to:

  • Adhere to ethical standards required of working within the Victorian criminal justice sector at an operational level
  • Effectively manage a range of justice context functions, including appropriate application of law, working within family violence contexts, conflict resolution and client services that address cultural diversity and special needs
  • Apply and direct effective communication, problem-solving and emotional intelligence skills within justice organisational structures and cultures
  • Apply effective written communication skills to prepare and present information, documents and briefs
  • Comply with legal and regulatory standards and provisions for work safety within justice environments
  • Supervise adult offenders at an operational level

Meet Graduate Jackson Gordon

Jackson started the Diploma of Justice (22594VIC) to understand legislation, courts, and corrections. After completing the course, Jackson commenced a Bachelor in Forensic Science at Deakin University.

Entry Requirements
Can I Apply?

There are no set prerequisites for this course. However it is highly recommended that you have satisfactory numeracy and literacy skills to undertake this course or are mature age and have sufficient work experience.

You may apply if you have satisfactorily completed VCE or an approved equivalent course and the satisfactory completion of the work requirements (eligibility to transfer); or are mature age and have sufficient work experience to successfully undertake the course. (Mature age is anyone over the age of 18 who has been out of full-time education for more than 12 months.)

Applicants are expected to have a demonstrated capacity in learning, reading, writing, oral and numeracy competencies to Level 4 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF).

Students are required to work independently and use support from a range of unfamiliar and/or unpredictable resources; read complex text with specialised vocabulary; embed information in a justice context; and conduct complex analysis, which includes extracting, extrapolating and reflecting on information and some abstract themes.

Students will be required to be able to use a personal computer, including basic word processing, spread sheet, and electronic communication platforms and internet search engines

As all of our course delivery features a combination of on-campus and remote (online) learning and we use an online learning platform. We recommend for all students undertaking the course that they have a suitable and stable internet connection, have access to a portable device i.e. laptop to be able to access classes, class and learning materials and upload assessments.

The self paced study mode is targeted towards students who are already working in a justice or related field and who are able to work independently. Students will have access to and support from the teaching department throughout their studies.
