Possible careers

This course may lead to employment in the construction industry as a waterproofer. It can also be used as an additional qualification for those in the construction industry carrying out associated waterproofing works.


Prerequisites

Workplace Delivery: To be eligible for this course you must be currently working in the industry as a waterproofer, with a minimum 5 years experience and access to a live worksite. You must also satisfy the prerequisite numeracy and literacy skills


Course overview

Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, we have adapted our course delivery to now encompass a combination of remote and flexible delivery methods. This includes easy to navigate online tutorials, video conferencing (classroom simulation) as well as face-to-face practical assessments and work placements - where safe and practical to implement. Therefore, you will require access to the internet and a computer to undertake this course. Our flexible model allows you to continue to study in a safe, guided and fully supported manner with continued access to all learning, personal and wellbeing supports. You will be advised by your facilitator on a case by case basis in relation to practical and work placement assessments, as some flexibility will be required during this challenging time.

All students required to attend on-site learning must be fully vaccinated in line with Bendigo TAFE’s Vaccination Policy

Workplace Delivery model: This is for those already working in the construction industry looking to become qualified. Delivered on-site in a flexible way that suits your work, we come to your worksite and assess you while you work. The delivery is designed to fit in with a modern working environment including online content and workplace simulations.

Free TAFE and JobTrainer

You may be entitled to free tuition fees for this course if you meet the eligibility criteria for the State Government's FREE TAFE for Priority Courses initiative. If you're aged 17-24 or looking for work, you may be eligible for 80% discount on the course tuition fee through JobTrainer. It's important to know you may incur fees that you will need to cover yourself, such as student service fees or materials fees. Skills First (eligible) students are usually entitled to one Free TAFE fee waiver, however under JobTrainer you may be eligible for a second Free TAFE course. You may also be able to get an exemption if you don't meet the upskilling requirement. To find out more, call 13 TAFE (13 8233).

This qualification provides a trade outcome in waterproofing for the residential and commercial construction industry. Occupational titles may include: Waterproofer. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as two specialist fields of work. The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment and this qualification requires all units of competency to be delivered in this context. Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCOHS1001A covers this requirement.
