First group of aspiring nurses training in Echuca

Fourteen aspiring nurses have officially begun their studies at Bendigo TAFE's Echuca campus, marking the first local intake of the Diploma of Nursing.

Launched in May, the course gives Echuca and surrounding communities a much-needed local training option for people wanting to start a nursing career close to home. Students will gain the skills needed for in-demand roles across Regional Victoria without having to travel long distances.

The program is delivered in partnership with Echuca Regional Health, giving students access to the hospital's simulation space for hands-on practical learning. This collaboration ensures students can build real-world clinical skills in a supported environment before moving into placements and employment.

The Diploma of Nursing is also available through Free TAFE, removing tuition fees for eligible students and making it easier for people to enter into the growing health and care sector.

For the fourteen new students, the course marks the beginning of a rewarding career path - and a chance to make a meaningful difference in their own community.
