Nursing graduate recognised as an inspiration

An outstanding nursing graduate from Bendigo TAFE has been recognised amongst Victoria’s most extraordinary young people, with Taylah Firmer recognised as a finalist of the 7News Young Achiever Awards (Victoria) Kangan Institute Inspirational TAFE Student Award.

The recognition celebrates Taylah’s resilience and determination to overcome challenges and find success in her educational field.

Despite facing a difficult childhood and the responsibility of being a full-time guardian to her younger brother, Taylah demonstrated unwavering commitment to nursing studies at Bendigo TAFE, earning the Student of the Year Award in 2022 and starting a career as a nurse.

“I am extremely humbled to be standing here tonight. Back in 2021, I embarked to start my Diploma of Nursing, which has given me a variety of skills which are transferable. TAFE has been an excellent pathway for me to jumpstart my nursing career,” Taylah said.

Currently pursuing the Bachelor of Nursing at university, Taylah remains dedicated to making a positive impact in the healthcare sector and her community.

The 2025 7News Young Achiever Awards (Victoria) was held on 9 May, honouring the success of more than 40 young award winners and finalists across the state.
