Certificate III in Horticulture (AHC30722)

Bryn Wedgeford

Following a degree in earth sciences, Bryn found himself gravitating towards a new path – gardening. While initially an outlet to support his mental health, Bryn saw himself turning gardening into a career.

“Horticulture is all about life, the beauty of nature, and people living together with the natural world,” Bryn said.

That’s when he decided to enrol in the Certificate III in Horticulture at Bendigo TAFE.

He expressed how great the teachers are and how they have been an important part of making the journey a fun experience.

“They really put an effort into make a connection with the students which really matters,” Byrn said.

In March 2025, Bryn joined his Bendigo TAFE classmates to present a garden at the Challenger Achievable Gardens competition, part of the 2025 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.

“I was given a brief, the idea of what we wanted to create - a space for connection and reflection, inspired by Australian Indigenous and Celtic cultures. Together we finalised a plant list, all natives,” he shared.

“I took these and designed the garden. I did a scaled map plan and a scaled elevation drawing and then did a night version with the lights on.

“It's taken a lot of effort and time, a lot of working with different stakeholders and suppliers, and such a big team effort to make it real with a lot of setbacks.”

Bryn’s goal is to professionally work in the horticulture industry and he is steadily gaining experience in different areas. His favourite so far is designing.
