Security Training at Bendigo TAFE: Certificate II in Security Operations

For the first time, Bendigo TAFE is offering the Certificate II in Security Operations (CPP20218) at the Bendigo City Campus. This milestone makes it easier for local students to access training in an industry that continues to grow across Victoria.

Why Security Matters

Security officers are part of the fabric of our communities. At major events, in shopping centres, at entertainment venues, and in workplaces, they are often the first point of contact for the public. Their presence provides reassurance, helps prevent conflict, and ensures safe environments for everyone.

Across Victoria, demand for trained security staff continues to grow as industries, venues, and communities place greater importance on safety. Having access to training in Bendigo gives more people the opportunity to explore this career pathway closer to home.

Building Local Pathways

The introduction of this training at Bendigo TAFE reflects a commitment to responding to workforce needs and supporting learners who want to explore new opportunities. For some, this course may be the first step into a career in security. For others, it may provide a way to take on flexible work alongside other commitments, with many roles available on weekends or evenings.

By making this training available locally, Bendigo TAFE is helping to connect people with employment pathways that are diverse and adaptable. Opportunities range from crowd control at concerts and sporting matches through to mobile patrols and control room operations.

What the Training Covers

Delivered over 18 days, the Certificate II in Security Operations combines classroom learning with practical activities that mirror real-world scenarios. The program prepares learners for the responsibilities of security work, from understanding legal requirements to developing effective communication skills and practicing safe responses in challenging situations.

Students also learn from experienced trainers who bring practical industry insights into the classroom, ensuring the training is both relevant and engaging.

Supporting Learners

Students in this program will have access to Bendigo TAFE’s broad range of support services, including libraries, learning centres, and career support. This ensures learners feel supported throughout their studies and confident in taking the next steps.

Where This Can Lead

Graduates who successfully complete the course and meet licensing requirements may find work in a range of settings. These include:

  • Shopping centres and retail precincts

  • Concerts, festivals and sporting events

  • Nightclubs and entertainment venues

  • Industrial sites and corporate buildings

  • Mobile patrols and control room operations

Security work can be full-time, part-time or casual, with many roles offering flexible hours. For some, it’s a pathway into a long-term career. The Certificate II in Security Operations is designed to open doors — whether you're looking for your first job, a career change, or a role that fits around your life.
